Messing up their Circadian Rhythms???

At night I can't seem to resist, going in and turn on the overhead room light in my snake room, to see what my guys are doing.

Fred is usually out, and that's about the only time I get to see him anymore since I got him his two new 12" coco hides. He freezes as if to say WHAT! WHAT DO YOU WANT!

Moe is more independent. He's never in his hide and it's like he's got to go out of his way just to even look at me. He slowly moves his head over as if to say oh, it's you again... and who are you again?

George could care less; He's been sleeping all day and it's time to meander around the cage, and nothing is going to stop him. I think he's planning an escape...

I went in there three times last night; So I guess my question is how harmful is it, that I turn the lights on them two to three times a night?

I don't think it's a big deal

I do the same thing, so long as you aren't leaving the light on all night then they will be just fine. Even if you left it on I think they would be okay lol. I catch my guys wandering around in the day time sometimes.

It doesn't harm them whatsoever.

I feed at night, so they are usually in hunting mode at the times I go in to feed. I usually just have a flashlight and don't turn on the room light. I point the flashlight towards the ceiling and that is all the light I really need and it is what I work with. There are times when I absolutely need to turn on the light but I try to minimize the times.

Turning it on a few times at night for a couple minutes at a time is fine, it's when you leave the light on all night it affects them.

i often go in and check mac's temp at night- i just use a flashlite.

I tend to use a stand lamp at night that was a frosted lens so it's a soft light. It's not terribly bright just enough to see what they are doing. I found my BP will hide if I turn his in cage LEd on but the stand lamp doesn't bother him. I've sat there for an hour watching.

That's why I like the red led lights or the IR heat bulbs for my enclosures. They're great for night viewing and don't bother the snakes at all.

I've read a lot of conflicting information over the years of reptiles and there ability to see red light. If used as a temporary for viewing and turned off it would probably be good but I don't see the need to have a light on all night.
