Resticking UTH to tank when the adhesive is dirty?
Hello. I am negotiating my finances before I buy another snake (baby ball python) and I've found a couple small hides to use in her enclosure. I'm also going to purchase beech or aspen substrate. I think panax is on the list too to deworm Mars so no protozoans somehow spread to the other snake (she's wild caught).
I have an extra heater lying around the house but its got substrate and fuzz on it from the apartment that hinders its sticking. So how do you re-stick it with faulty adhesive?

Honestly....duct tape....it can make the glue of the tape melt a bit and ooze, but I don't care about that too much.

I use the silver heat tape when I do this. It sticks very well and also helps dispurse the heat.

It sticks so poorly I'm gonna be duct taping the entire square to the viv. Oh well. It saves money for the moment.

Use some alcohol to wipe off any dirt or old adhesive residue, then use packing tape, duct tape, or gorilla tape to reattach it. Anything that sticks will work, but I'd clean it first.

I agree with reptiledude. Silver foil tape used in HVAC. Disperse the heat and sticks will. Sold at any hardware store.

Didn't know about that stuff. I'll have to look into that!

Yep, I agree with the silver foil tape. Works great on my tanks and pvc enclosures.

Another vote for silver ducting tape. I actually prefer the variety that is rated for chimneys or other hot exhaust ducts.

Re: Resticking UTH to tank when the adhesive is dirty?
I'm buying a ball python this month, is a UTH by zoomed considered to be too minimal for heating requirements? Do I need the herpstat within the first month?

You need a thermostat with any UTH source.

Re: Resticking UTH to tank when the adhesive is dirty?
Alternatively, you can use a rheostat/dimmer. It requires that you stay a bit more on top of things than when using a thermostat, but it is also significantly cheaper.

If you are forced to buy the sticky heat pads you can stick them to a flat piece of metal first then put the metal under the tank. That way you can reuse the heat pad over and over.

I use these ones Ultratherm Heat Pads
They work great, are cheaper and are reuseable.
