New Pell pictures. Three Toed Box Turtle.

Dag and Pell each got some nightcrawlers today. Took pictures of Pell enjoying hers. We used to have a thriving population of Pill bugs, especially around the foundation and sides of the outbuilding in the back yard but they have done a number on it over the last week.
It is quite fun to watch them stalk and pounce on them!

One of the pill bugs wandered by and only avoided destruction because she was busy devouring her worm.

"All done. Where's the next one, Mom?"

Wow, they look very healthy! Are they breeding age as of yet?

Re: New Pell pictures. Three Toed Box Turtle.

I believe they are full grown but don't know much about their background. They were an owner surrender to one of the local animal shelters, who passed them on to a turtle/tortoise specific rescue that made sure they were healthy and then adopted them to me.

Pell, the female, has a little damage to her shell and her beak is a little long but both the turtle rescue and my vet are of the opinion that we should try naturally helping her grind it down rather than trimming it and it is getting a little better, just taking awhile.

Dag, the male, has some fairly extensive old damage to his shell. These are pictures soon after I got them last year and his shell is actually looking a little better now.

They are currently in a temporary outdoor pen but hoping this year to make at least half of the real pen I have planned. Have the perfect spot for it. It's going to be quite big, so I'm thinking of adding in dividers that can be removed and moved around and maybe adding a few more turtles.
