Hognose Cage Size?

For my second snake I'm thinking of getting a juvenile male hognose, but I was wondering how big a cage I could put him in. I looked online and it said for a max male you would usually have a 10 Gallon, and I'm looking for some thing with a small surface area so I can fit another cage on my cabinet. But the snake's comfort comes before, my convenience. What do you guys suggest?

Re: Hognose Cage Size?

10 gal minimum honestly. They do have some kritter keepers that have the same floor space as a 10 but is short. Since hogs generally don't climb that might work for you. I have a male hog too and he's in a 5 gal type kritter keeper but when full grown in a few years will probably be upgraded to a 20 long since my guy is unusually active and likes to cruise alot where as my MBK who's 4 times larger prefers to either curl up in a hide, or lounge in the front of her tank...no real cruising ir exploring for her lol. Shoot...my ball python is more active than my MBK >_>

Anyway...sorry for going off topic. A 10 gallon is good, a 20 long is best.

I would honestly get a 20 gallon breeder tank. I plan on upgrading my male to a 40 gallon breeder tank with lots of hides and decoration for him to explore and feel comfortable in.
But I would use 20 gallon for sure with lots of enrichment.
