Found a snake today :)
Well it didn't take me long to find a snake lol. Went out shopping with my sister to get crickets for her daughter's bearded dragon. And I came upon a Mexican black kingsnake, I was excited It is bigger than the one I was looking at on line. It came from a local pet store. Just a local pet store not a chain. I didn't want to lose it to someone else so I went ahead and got it.
I have no idea how old it is. It's about 2 foot long. I think, not real good at guessing lengths.
It not once tried to bite me at all, seems to be a very mellow guy
Tried to post pictures but says it's limited.

Re: Found a snake today :)
I snake at a pet store? How unusual!
J/K although from the title with the word found I expected you found a wild snake.
Congrats on bringing home your new friend. I look forward to seeing some pictures.

Re: Found a snake today :)
Here is my new family member lol. The photo don't do him justice it's pretty overexposed. It is much blacker than the pic is showing. Sis took it with her camera real quick so I could put him in his tank to settle down. I don't want to mess with him a lot at first so he can get use to his new surroundings. I love this little guy, very mellow.
Now to name him/her. Guess it will have to be a name to cover both sexes since I have no idea what gender it is!

Re: Found a snake today :)
Nice pick up! Looks like a juvenile, maybe ten months old to one year. Did you ask the retailer how the health was and how they obtained him? Also, is he feeding normally?

Re: Found a snake today :)
The guy at the store had him for like a month. Someone traded him in for reef equipment. Said he is eating fine. But they did feed him live, so I hope he takes frozen ok. Didn't say anything about health. They fed him the day before I got him. Who ever had him took good care of him and must have held him often. He isn't nippy or nervous at all when held.

Re: Found a snake today :)
What would be the ideal enclosure size for this little guy? I have my exo terra large wide. Would that be to big for him at the moment?
Thanks!

It's definitely not too big, it's a pretty decent size for him at 2ft. I'd move him up to his adult viv when he hits about 3.5ft as he will need the extra space

Re: Found a snake today :)
I think a 40 gal tank or a 4x2 pvc enclosure would be a great size for a MBK. Both of my kings are in 40 gal tanks and they have lots of room.
