BP threw up/heat question

Hello everyone, so about a week ago my BP threw up her rat. I was not home to see exactly what had happened because my mom fed her. She told me she fed her at 10 pm and by 2 am she just reached the rats tail!! As soon as she got to the end she threw it all up. I called my local reptile shop (where I bought the rat from) to ask when I should feed her again and the owner told me in 2 weeks. The rat was not to big for her, it was the same size I always feed her. The only difference was they didn't have and frozen so it was freshly killed. although I don't think that was the problem..I was just wondering if this was normal, I know it happens but was confuses me is the fact that it took her 5 hours to reach the tail!

Now for the heat..
I use a 100 watt ceramic heat emitter for both of my snakes, with a temperature controller. At first they worked fine. But now, the heat emitter wasn't catching up to the controller. Now, the controller is set on over 110 degrees (only because when I put it lower it does not heat it up at all) but my thermometer reads 70, sometimes 60. That's why i'm buying a new one right now. The heat emitters I have now are 100 watts. So Should i get 150 watts..? Will that be enough to get it up to the right temp?

I'm sure I left some info out so ask away!

Her humidity is at 55 and no, she was not being handled before she was fed and she is not shedding soon.

Re: BP threw up/heat question

What do you use to measure the heat and humidity? Is it a digital guage or analog?

From how long it took the first thing that came to my mind was it was too big, if you say it's the same size you always offer then I would check inside her mouth to make sure everything's ok in there, look for any sores or discoloration.

I don't see why it would matter if it's F/T or fresh killed, at least not to you BP. If you're not using a thermometer or it's an analog brand, then it could be too cold and she doesn't have the energy to consume or digest the food. I say this with an analog thermometer because they're unreliable and not sensitive enough to be used.

I took her recently to get her mouth checked everything was okay, Its a digital thermometer and hygrometer..I also just ordered a infrared thermometer just to be safe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm guessing its because shes too cold..This stupid heat emitter isn't heating it up anymore that's why I want to get a higher wattage one.

Re: BP threw up/heat question

Yea that would be my guess. I would just offer food again on your next feed day and see how she does.

Sounds like your Che burnt out. I always buy the largest one I can find. I use 250w. The less it's on the longer it lasts.

Re: BP threw up/heat question

Find out if the temperature gauge is faulty or the temps are.

It's odd to have the snake eat the rodent but throw it up so soon due to a lack of heat. Snakes usually don't hunt if they are too cold.

The time frame of taking the rat and swallowing it isn't a big deal. Sometimes they are lazy and wait for awhile or just can't find the head.

Under normal circumstances a regurge like this would occur due to a scare of some sort. Maybe mom startled the snake when checking on it and the snake tossed up the meal. It happens in the wild when they feel threatened or insecure.

Yeah just waiting for the infrared thermometer to come in and I'll see what's going on.
That's what I thought also but she told me she didn't move a muscle until my Mowgli was done. She's very paranoid about that because she knows if they get startled during a meal it's no good. She gets mad when I move my arm lolll
She told me she was going out of the house but since it took her so long she had to sit and watch for those 5 hours

I don't know I guess it happens..well she what happens when I try again !
