What to house hatchling in?

I have a pair of Thai red mountains on the way. I'm curious what I should use for initial housing? I was thinking a shoebox but might they escape via the lid? How large do you make vent holes for hatchling snakes? I normally use a soldering iron to make holes but can find something smaller if needed.

You can secure the lid with binder clips.
