Woohoo! Good luck, I love these guys, they're another one on the short list of colubrids I'd consider owning.

Re: The last 2014 snake pairing at Elemental Exotics
Awesome stuff Charis, for me it is awesome to see this species being bred out of there home country so to speak.
If I may just make a small correction on the Species common name, they are called The Southern Brown House Snake, and occur throughout the Country of South Africa. There is no specific Cape or African connotation, attached to their name. Just my two cents worth.

Re: The last 2014 snake pairing at Elemental Exotics
That is interesting to know!
In the US, they are all called "African" House snakes and the capensis is very commonly called a "Cape." I think, if I'm remembering right, definitely not a given, that part of the reason breeders here stress putting "Cape" or other names for the other subspecies, in what they are labeled, is to help limit the confusion that is very present with the House snake market. They are often still being sold labeled as African House Snake or Brown House Snake, with no scientific names and no other designations, for all 3 of the more commonly available ones and then new people, even experienced House snake keepers, don't know what they have and inadvertently create hybrids and often have problems with their snakes' fertility or the hatchlings after awhile as the various subspecies don't hybridize well.
But I'm pretty new to House snakes and don't know much about how they've gotten saddled with names here, I just follow the prevalent naming conventions that more and more people seem to be demanding.

Re: The last 2014 snake pairing at Elemental Exotics
I hear you. On another note of interest the whole latin naming of the species has now changed as well. The whole House snake species fell under the main name of Lamprophis, with sub-species being identified as follows; Southern Brown House (capensis), Olive House (inornatus), Aurora House (aurora), Spotted House (guttatus), Fisks House (fiskii), Yellow Belly House (fuscus). the capensis subspecies has a range over the entirety of the whole country and is not only confined to the Cape Province, hence being called the Southern House or more commonly, the Brown House.
I will find the new species listing and naming and post it here.

Re: The last 2014 snake pairing at Elemental Exotics
Indigo laid her first ever clutch sometime last night! She quite surprised me by laying 10 fertile eggs and no slugs, I was expecting a slightly smaller clutch, this being her first time.

Thinking they should hatch sometime in the first two weeks of January.
