feeding tips

I have a 22 23 inch dumeril boa i got him 55 days ago. He/she wont strike/eat live small mice. I need help please

I hope someone can help, I don't know much about not eating my snake eats F/T and won't stop eating! Well he's not eating right now (in shed) and I don't really know he's a he. Good luck hun! I'll try sending my snakes hunger vibes your way? Lol

Are you saying he hasn't eaten anything in 55 days?

First thing is to make sure conditions in the cage are adequate. Pics would be helpful. Make sure temps and humidity are good (measured with quality digital equpment), and there is plenty of cover to make him feel secure, like lots of cover, not just a hide and a stick. Make sure the food is the propper size for the snake, 1 to 2 times the with of the snakes widest point.

I would seriously try frozen/thawed before live. Drop a thawed mouse on a plate in the cage at dusk, cover as much of the cage as possible with a towel to give him a secure space and check the next day. If he didn't feed, repeat after a few days. don't try to hold him, leave him alone as much as possible.

I would do this several times before even thinking about live. If you do go with live, keep an eye on it the whole time but try to be as inconspicuous as possible. Don't leave the mouse in for more than 20 minutes, and be ready to intervene if it looks like the mouse might go after the snake.

5 days is a non issue. let him get use to new Viv and avoid stressing him out more. Id wait another week and then try again.

5 days is nothing hun. Just try again in a week. They say 10-15% of their weight every 7-10 days for the first yr and every 10-14 days after that. My blaze eats mice fuzzies that are slightly larger than his body, I don't have a scale so use a guesstimate of the food that looks slightly larger than the largest part of the snakes body. I haven't even offered mine a mouse in over a week due to shedding, I would be waisting $5! Being a new snake parent can be very stressful but realise they don't eat near as we do! And as for getting you snake another hide Tupperware bowls with a "door" cut in them make great temp cheap hides. So go clay dollar tree pots.

You're welcome. I get plenty of research time, plus as a home school teacher is counts as curriculum not just hobby advancements. The girls love reptiles and amphibians so when we study science it tends to lean that way lol.

my dums did not eat for the first 2 months. It is common for them once they switch environments to not eat right away. don't stress.

ok that makes me feel better ill just try ever 5-7 days till about a month if he don't eat ill start worying
