I love that snake! Very nice. You can sex by using a sex probe, but you need to know how to do it correctly or you will injure the snake. What I would do is, the next time a herp show rolls near your area, take her there because in some herp shows people probe for money, usually real cheap, or you can go to a vet and they'll do it for more, but they have to be an exotic vet so don't let just any vet do it if that's your plan. Hope I have helped!
P.S. I also hate rude people, especially when it is a beginner asking a question and trying to learn as much as they can.

Kings are always a good choice for a first snake, so much so, I'm still "beginning" my collection Oh, by the way, just a warning.....once you have one, you HAVE to have MORE!!!! LOL

I would just like to say hello to a fellow CalKing herper, although I have a female desert phase King, and you have a coastal king. Nevertheless, you'll have a great time with it.
I found it very easy to sex mature CalKings, you will find that the tail of a female Calking tapers very quickly after their cloaca (vent), whereas the males have a more smoother taper till the tip of the tail (so to hide their hemipenis).
Have look and compare it to males and females on the internet.

Very nice Cal King! Our oldest snake is a cal king very similar to yours and they are great snakes. He is a rescue snake that came in through our local herp club and despite having had a hard start in life (he was skin and bones when we got him) he is the greatest personality of all time. He is so tolerant of everything. I am sure you will love your new little guy (or gal).
As Stalabros says, Cal Kings are pretty easy to sex once they are mature by looking at the tail from underneath. If it tapers smoothly from the vent to tip, and is quite short, it is likely a female. If it seems to be thick (some will actually have a bit of a bulge) after the vent and is quite long, it is a male.
If you look at the tail from the side - holding the tip straight out to the back - in a female it will curve up quite quickly after the vent, and in a male it will tend to extend back straight for up to an inch before curving up to the point.
Best of luck with your new snake, you will likely want another one before long.
