New retic- possible prolapse? Need advice

This is the retic I picked up at Hamburg, but at first I thought it was just trying to poop but it looks like a prolapse. Tell me what you guys think and what I should do about it - I've never had this before. Thanks to everyone who has input. and btw I know the pictures are kind of blurry but i got the best ones I could!

soak the snake (the prolapse ) in sugar water,DO NOT let the prolapse tissue dry out

then you need to get it to a vet as quickly as possible

re sugar water
simply mix a few spoonfulls of sugar in some water,stir until the sugar disolves

then put an inch or two of the sugar water in a tub

put the snake in the tub and allow it to soak,splash the water over the prolapse if need be,REPEAT the process when needed (keep the tissue moist at ALL times)

keep it moist,as drying out may kill the tissue

Mate I would make sure you keep it clean and take your little one to see a vet, I've heard people saying that's if you bath them in sugared water it helps. Hopefully someone with more experience will be along soon to help

sugar will help. It is a hyper osmotic solution which helps to draw out some of the edema and swelling. You can make it very very hyper osmotic (lots of sugar, little water) and it will not hurt the snake. THIS IS A TEMPORARY SOLUTION until you can get the animal to a vet.

they will likely fix the prolapse by two longitudinal sutures on either side of the cloacal vent. YOU DO NOT WANT A PURSE-STRING SUTURE, if you can't get to a reptile vet, a small animal vet may suggest a pursestrings to help close the cloaca, but that doesn't work very well with the reptile/cloacal anatomy. You want one longitudinal suture on either side. The snake should still be able to poop normally.

Depending on the cause behind the original prolapse, that may be all you need, or you may need additional surgery.
I would take a good look at your husbandry, make sure the snake has access to a humid hide, and you may need periodic soaks until it passes whatever was causing the prolapse.

Alright- he's in sugar water and I just made a phone call to my local exotics vet. Told them its a prolapse and they said they would call me back shortly to bring him in. Thanks for the quick responses and advice!
