He looks very nice! If he is healthy i would say, why not?.. But i can't tell you if it is a good deal 'value' wise.

Looks good. Check for any signs of RI before you buy it.

Re: male CRB possibility?

My question is always why? Why this species? Do you enjoy crb that much? Is it the price? Is it because you feel it is in a bad situation? Is it just because he offered it? Maybe it is just a hoarding instinct?

Re: male CRB possibility?

I like my crb's. I didn't search it out. It was offered. I resent the hoarding remark...others here have dozens or more animals...my collection pales in comparison. Doubt I will get him anyway...but a friend of mine is contemplating on it if I dont so still wanted opinions.

looking past the attitude, I think this is a really important questions for ANYONE to ask themselves before they bring another snake into their house. I wish i had been more self aware last year when i 'accidentally' picked up two male corn snakes, because they 'came with' the rosy boa i wanted. Now i have less room in my collection for species i truly want because i took in these corns as well.

I think it is important to try and look at yourself 10-15 years into the future, and picture your life; how many snakes do you have? Do you envision still having all the ones you have now (barring old age)? How does the addition to the collection fit in with your goals and future, both personally and in your practice of the hobby?

As for the hoarding thing: it is not just about the number of snakes that you have. No one would ball Brian from BHB reptiles a hoarder, but the guy in california with 300 dead snakes was certainly getting close to the definition. I think Hoarding is more about your attitude towards the snake (why you have it). Taking in a snake just because it was offered, or was cheap, or was in a bad situation (not saying the crb fits this bill) is not always best for you or the snake, and can be a dangerous path to start down.

personally, if you didn't want a crb UNTIL AFTER you heard about this guys offer, i wouldn't do it.

What kevin is saying with the hoarding comment is that you seem to be collecting animals really fast. If you're around this hobby long enough you run into people who rapidly acquire and they always seem to run into the same issues of proper housing, problematic feeding, and some amass so fast they end up selling everything off not e
Realizing all the work that goes into a large collection.

When keepers start out this is really common. We all go through it.

Re: male CRB possibility?

My crb is definitely my favorite of all my snakes...which is why I was actually contemplating getting this one. Although your point was also weighing in the back of my mind...I would rather conserve space and time for one of the other species we have our eyes on for the future. My friend really wants a crb also, though and I will take the opinions on the animal from here back to her so she can make her decision. Thanks for all the constructive advice!

Re: male CRB possibility?

What Kevin is really saying is exactly what he said. I always ask myself why I want a new snake and why others want one. There was no attitude at all. I made no accusations. currently own 6 boas. I just turned down 4 free ones, decided against taking one a friend NEEDS to rehome and just refused two more a guy wanted to trade. I was truly tempted on everyone of them but none fit my breeding plans or I wasn't sure they were healthy. I truly love boas and would have a house full of them but I know it's not feasible right now.

Usually when I m being an *** or want to be rude i take sure my intentions are clear.

Re: male CRB possibility?

I just said I take offense to the hoarder comment...I did answer the other questions you posted...didn't accuse you of being rude...I would love to have him, but truthfully I would rather wait...someday in the future there are a few other species we would like to have, possibly, and would like to assure we have the room for them...we are attached to our animals and would be totally against rehoming just to make room for something else...but my friend is really interested so I posted this for opinions even though I was pretty sure I wasn't going to take him...

I don't find this rude or mean. He's just pointing out a factor which might cause you to want this snake(which you've proven not to be the case). Besides he wasn't saying it in a mean way, he was speculating.

Re: male CRB possibility?

I didn't say it was rude or mean...just that I take offense to it...so I got a few animals in a short amount of time...so have many others...I am 38, and most of these animals have long similar length life spans...I would rather get them all now, and by the time I am 60 and not as youthful and energetic, they will be dwindling down to where I have none...I dont want to risk something happening in my advanced age that would leave someone having to rehome a collection of reptiles...I want to enjoy them while I can, is my philosophy. We have no plans on any more once the new guy gets here...but there are some we may consider in the next year or two possibly. Maybe, maybe not...

Re: male CRB possibility?

I'm struggling trying to understand why you find a comment that was not directed at you offensive....

Re: male CRB possibility?

Good points. FYI, however, I know people who knew that guy in CA, and he was a good breeder until a family member's passing messed up his head. It was mental trauma that caused that issue, not hoarding. :-(

isn't this saying maybe I have a hoarding instinct? not splitting hairs, but it WAS directed towards me...yes, I found it offensive, but I did not freak out about it...
