Talking Hello from North Dallas!

Hello all!

I am new forums and pretty new to snakes as well..
I mean, when I was about 8, I pestered my mom into buying me a snake for Christmas..I was a strange girl, I guess.

There is quite a strange story behind my little bundle of joy. A.k.a, the reason I joined this site. If you're interested, stay tuned! lol

I'm just here to say hi! And I will gladly and graciously accept any advice on how to navigate through this site. (I love it so far, but like I said, I'm new to the forum thing). I think it's pretty self-explanatory, but if someone has secret knowledge of some sort.. Spill! Please

So, without further adieu, the story of how I got Pierre, the Pearl Island Boa!

I was at a PETsMART to get the usual haul for the hoard of animals I keep (2 Bunnies, 5 cats, an Iguana, a rat, and 8 turtles). When out in the parking lot, I spotted a woman, standing outside of her lone parked car, she was holding a cool looking snake and looking distraught.
The kind soul inside of me wanted to see what was wrong. The snake and car seemed to be in good working order, so my curiosity was peaked.
I walked up and complimented her beautiful pet, and asked as politely as possible if she was okay. She just nodded.. So I asked her about the snake.
she told me it was a Pearl Island Boa. She said she had been waiting for the person who wanted to buy him from an ad she made off craigslist, she said she was moving tomorrow and just didn't know what to do. she looked like she was about to cry when she told me she just wanted him to go to a good home.
Then she looked up at me with a hope in her eyes. she asked if I would like to take him home (while we were talking, I had told her about all my other pets, my job, and my love of animals). I could not refuse.
she opened her car door to reveal a whole setup and told me I can take this too. No charge. I shook my head and dug in my pocket, fishing out about 20 dollars for her.
I took the snake and the setup and went home. Thrilled to have another snake in my family!
Upon doing some research, I found the pearl island boa was quite rare and I was even more thrilled! however, it is very hard to find any good, solid information on them..

So, really the reason I joined this website is to gather as much information I can about this amazing creature!

That's it for now! Thanks for reading!

Re: Hello from North Dallas!

Hello and welcome.

Pearl Island boas are a boa constrictor, so probably quite a bit of their care is similar to commons, or Colombian boas. I've only owned a Colombian, but there are quite a few locality-specific keepers here that I'm sure could help you out if there are any differences you need to be aware of. Can't wait to see pics!

Re: Hello from North Dallas!

Congrats on you're newly acquired snake. It is wonderful to hear wonderful rescue stories. Had you have not took him it would be hard to tell what would have happened to the poor guy.
