New BCI With a Red Vent.. Is He Ok?
Hey everyone well i just picked up a baby bci today and im super excited! I think its a male and ive named him Moose haha. He was one of the smaller ones of the group and had large spurs. The ones that had much smaller spurs were all a bit larger than Moose so im assuming those were most likely the females and Moose is most likely a male. Anyway, hes super chill and very healthy looking. My buddy Paul who works at the shop says hes a good eater and is onto hopper mice. So once i got him home and let him settle in i picked him up to move his water dish and noticed that hos vent looked a little pinkish. This is my first BCI so im very wary of any possible problems. Hes eating well and i actually saw him defecate at the store so everything seems fine i just dont know what this pinkish vent is about.. None of my other snakes have had this. Heres a picture, and i know it doesnt stand out to much but i wanna make sure hes 100% ok. Thanks everyone!

After looking at this pic again now it seems pretty minor pale pink but something must be causing it right?

Re: New BCI With a Red Vent.. Is He Ok?
my one kingsnake is very nervous when handled initially, and often everts his vent and then poops/musks/pees, sometimes the vent stays open a bit and red; i think due to the muscles remaining tense. Another thought is he could have been recently popped to ensure gender, coupled with dehydration the tissues arent going back to where they should.
I would advise leaving him be for at least the first week (preferably until he has had 2-3 feeds), make sure he good humidity, possibly a humid hide/large waterbowl etc, and check again in a week to see if the redness has gone away.

he could maybe also be getting ready for a shed; my rosy boa tends to look very pink, especially on her belly, just before a shed.

Re: New BCI With a Red Vent.. Is He Ok?
It's hard to tell what's going on in the photo. My boa constrictor also has a reddish spot on the scale covering his vent, except it's very clearly pigmentation. That's most likely what's going on here, but I couldn't tell you without a clearer photo. This sounds really weird in my head, but just inspect it to make sure it isn't just the natural coloration of those scales.
I found a photo of it. It looks more like one round dot than a bunch of spaced dots in person, though. The main focus when I took this photo was his spur, so sorry about that. You can still see the darker red-orange color, though.
