@Reddog it depends on if your allergic. My buddy and a Rosy T that bit him twice and he never had to go. It just got a little red at the bite site for a couple days.

Most tarantulas are pretty harmless, their bite wouldn't be much worse than a really big beesting (unless you're allergic). Exceptions to this are the indian ornamentals/asian arboreal spiders, baboon tarantulas, and somenof the south american arborials (trinidad chevron, for example).

Depends largely on the T.

The venom of most of the New World Ts (North and South America) is medically insignificant -- other than a bit of pain on the order of a bee sting. The pain from actual mechanical damage from the fangs would be the more noticeable than that from a bee's stinger -- especially if one gets tagged by an adult goliath T. (Along the lines of the difference between the mechanical damage from a shot at the doctor's office -- the bee sting-- and the damage from getting stabbed with a couple of nails -- goliath's fangs.) It is widely believed that it is because of their weaker venom, that NW Ts have urticulating hairs.

Old World Ts (Africa, Asia, India ...), on the other hand, have medically significant venom. While death is still highly unlikely, many have venom that will put you in a world of hurt for at least a few days if not longer (nothing permanent though). OW Ts lack urticulating hairs.

Allergic reaction to T venom is highly unusual. If one is allergic to bee venom, one should not assume one is also allergic to T venom -- their chemical make-ups are very different.
