what to get next ???

Hi all looking in to getting a new snake really not shure what to get tho I really like my bci but I loved to see her perched on a bransh when she was a lot smaller she dont do it no more to big I think lol. Naw the qestion is do I go with a male (albeno bci) or a tree dweling snake really not in to gtp or atb as I want a snake that is easy to handle could eny one name a few snakes that live just in trees exept these 2 be intrsted to hear bout them. gtps have a bad rep, but they are not all grumpy and aggressive, there are many being captive bred these days, if u are looking for a nice perching snake, you cant get much prettier than a gtp imo, I'd suggest checking out as many as you can, talk to the breeders and find out about their individual temperaments and that of their parents, some can be handled without to much fuss, some wont let you near them, the same is true of most snakes tbh - theres a shop with a Black Mamba that doesnt mind being handled at all, which is definitly not considered a standard temprament (but of course still carries a huge risk to the handler)

if you want a snake that's at least semi arboreal, get a Carpet. They are easy to keep, tolerate handling very well, are much sturdier than GTPs and definitely as a rule have much better temperaments.

I agree. The morelia family of snakes make great pets. As mentioned GTP's are not the devils they are made out to be however they are delicate.

I have to disagree that GTP's are on the same level of 'most snakes' with regards to striking. Arboreal species are very strike happy group of snakes, its just in their nature to strike first, ask questions later. Captive breeding is helping, but I would never say that the amount of GTP's which strike at the keeper is equal to that of just about every terrestrial species.

There are tame ones sure, but I don't think they are in the same percentage of the whole as other species. Similar to ATBs, ETBs, some Elaphe , etc.

I have been looking in to gtp or atb but I dont think they easy to come by here in the uk and they really got a big price tag lol got to do a lot more reserch before even thinking ov geting one. Also been thinking bout arboral rat snakes not to shure what choices I would have in the colubrid world tho lol eny ideas ???

GTP's run at about £500, i can recommend a contact this side of the bridge if you are interested.
