Anyone here own adult ratsnakes?

How big are their enclosures? I haven't come across a single care sheet that recommends a cage bigger than 4x2 for a 6 ft grey ratsnake. Then I stumbled upon a youtube video showing a grey rat in a much larger enclosure, which I thought was more ideal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like an active diurnal species which grows 6ft+ would be cramped in a 4x2

Ratsnakes are a great daytime display species and even with a 10 foot wide by 6 high enclosure theyd use it all. Roman has a tiger rat in a massive display enclosure and said it utilizes the whole thing. I think it was a tiger rat, not 100% sure

Yes I saw his pictures and it was a tiger rat. That is just one example of why I don't understand why the majority of care sheets recommend such cramped sizes for active and large colubrids. Maybe they are using a minimalistic approach to care but even then IMO its worse than minimal.

If someone who has experience with large colubrids could give some input that would be great.

The majority of care sheets list the bare minimum size the snake needs to be able to move. There is no such thing as a cage too big. People tend to have the mindset "what can I fit in here" like they are loading a UPS truck.

Good point, I guess it's a way of justifying it, or removing the guilty feeling of cramping an animal into a small box.

Yeah, if i got a rat, i would probably just do a big display setup. I'll leave the tubs for boas and balls.

My red ratsnake (cornsnake) is in a 4'x18"x18" and he uses all of it. I would love to set something like this up for him. Maybe one day.
