Dumerils Boa?
So someone wants to trade a Durm for my 40 gallon tank with lamp and heat mat...he's over 3 years old and 4 foot. I've done research on them and handled them plenty of times at my work, but would like to know of people who personally have one? Would it do well in a rack system? Really interested in getting him too, it's very pretty I will attach a pic the person sent me.

Re: Dumerils Boa?
At that size and age, he's getting a bit big to be in a rack setup.

Re: Dumerils Boa?
They're awesome snakes! Very laid back, and get to a large, but manageable size.

Talk about over crowded and stressful.
They make awesome pets. Just be sure to quarantine it from your other snakes for a few months.

Poor guy needs an enclosure of his own.

Re: Dumerils Boa?
I know that's why I really want to get him but I do have to quarantine and not sure if I want to do that really.

Re: Dumerils Boa?
If I get him though I will do that though obviously I wouldn't want my other snakes to get sick! The Dum is so pretty!

Re: Dumerils Boa?
An underbed style tub with a UTH and thermostat will suffice during the quarantine period as long as the ambient temp is 78 or so. Perhaps you could get him a better enclosure by the time qt is over.

Re: Dumerils Boa?
Well the rack isn't tiny that's for sure, I may just give him his own tank but need to figure that out! Mainly the rack is for my Ball Pythons so Ill just give the Boa his own cage :P

Re: Dumerils Boa?
I have 9 Dums. Black Betty is in a 6' Neodesha only because she's 9' long. Popeye, Arwen and Euryale are in 74qt. tubs in a AP 1996 rack and they're doing great. My 4 yr. old Dums are in 41qt. tubs in a AP 1860 rack and they're doing great as well. My 2 yr. old Dums are in 32qt. tubs in a AP 1755 rack and they're also doing great. All are eating well. All are laid back and mellow. I have no problems with any of them. If you want to use a rack to house him, I see no issue with that. Just make sure that you quarantine first and then when it's time to move them out of quarantine, make sure they are housed alone.
