Re: You Know You've Got a Keeper When...
Re: a keeper...
Simply put when there is an absence of heavy expectations (both sides) yet there is a desire to be there for, do things for and extend yourself for eachother I'd say both sides have found a "keeper".
Life changes and life happens so we have to expect one year might be vastly different from the next. Pairing up with someone who is inflexible in thier expectation is eventually going to be a short road. (Or a sad one)
I met my wife when she was in one of her last courses. Her Univ was paid off but she had 15k in college loans...so I never asked her for a penny (house, food, fun, etc)When she said "yes" I paid her loans off. When we took vacations I paid for most if that. I had lots of time in my week early on so I was happy to do the cooking. My wife did the chores I hate, helped with with work stuff when I asked and when I wanted to rearrange life around I.M. training or racing she is always good with that.
There have been times when my funds have been tied up in other things so my net take home was lower than normal...at those times she paid for mostly everything. With a smile. I even kept racing in the US while funds were down back then, she didnt care! She even helped me with recovery (RMT stuff) weekly.
We are very, very different....
compliment eachother well....
rarely argue and always find "a way"
And as a bonus....she's reeeeeeeally fun to look at...
Keeper..!
Always had animals.
When she moved in I was breeding exotic birds which are high maint, loud, did have odor in super high heat, loud, and they were loud. So a room full of Pythons was an easy sell. She actually picked the very first one.

Yeah...and there were not pets and wanted no part if me.
One of my older breeding males was sooo mean. Like make and angry Blood look like a kitten kinda' mean. He full on wanted to hurt me! I had to take great care never to get a finger within his reach as I'm sure he take it off. If it ever looked like he could get me he would try. Sometimes hiding behind the nestbox then dive bomb where I was cleaning / working. Twice he bashed his way through the (sheet metal) door on the nest box with his face.
That was fun...
Capture a vicious bird with a 5 foot wing span and a very sharp (very big) can opener on his face... After the second time I had to make a door out of 1/4 inch alum.
Room full of snakes, no comparison ![Smilie](http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif) love it..!
(...not to change the subject.....back on topic.... Keepers)

That is exactly how my boyfriend is. I think he is so accepting when I do my research because I am the same way with him.. he collects knives, so when he's done his research, I won't give him a hard time about a new purchase. But if I do impulse buy, he usually falls in love once he meets them. (I brought home a kitten last week, and over the phone he was talking me out of it, but one he met Moose, he was in love).

Re: You Know You've Got a Keeper When...
Let's see... fiance #1 got ditched because he wanted me to sell my horse before the wedding. I had the horse long before I met him.
As for the hubby, as long as there are no issues with finances or available space, there is no fussing about purchases of critters or firearms.

Chris thank you for putting a smile on my face.
Back to the topic. The girl i was dating before my wife made me sell all my snakes before she would move in with me. Well after six months of her crap i kicked her to the curb. Me and Tami got together and six month later we were married. We had been best fiends for over ten years when we finally started dating. The same year we got married she got me a jungle carpet as a early Christmas gift. The one great thing about her is she keeps me grounded or i would have over 50 snakes by now. Once i hit sixteen snakes she said that was enough until i start breeding and selling the babies. Then i can get a pair of Woma Pythons and Hogg Islands boas.

Re: You Know You've Got a Keeper When...
My boyfriend never seemed to be too interested in reptiles when I first started hanging out with him. Over the past couple of months he's become way more interested in helping me take care of them, asking me questions about some species, and helping me build enclosures. He says as long as they don't smell up the house, and cost an arm and a leg of electricity, I could get a couple of more. Today we went to the petstore to handle a baby skink to get an idea of how they are, as I just got one and she is too nervous to let me handle her right now..my boyfriend was amazed by the babies, and even held a uromastyx, and we spoke about one day owning one.
