mites.

Hey guys. I just saw my corn snake exploring so I figured I'd get up and get closer to check him out. I looked in his water bowl and there are tiny little bugs in there... I am not sure if they are mites or (parasites?) or some other harmless bugs. Here are some pictures. I know you can't really see but they have wings F.Y.I.

Fruit flies don't bother anything. Has there ever been a bug in your cage?

Re: mites.

If your using tubs, plastic waterbowls and newspaper then I'm with Aaron. The bugs don't just come out of nowhere...

I found a earwig in my sock once, I noticed it after I put it on .
How did that get there my socks were fresh out the draw and they had been dried in a tumble dryer prior to that lol.

I used to have all my snakes setup like that. Bugs can get through the tiniest little spaces and into your snake's tub. It's as simple as that. You would be completely ignorant to dispute that fact. I have those little flying insects dead in my water bowls before. You act as if that's bad or it can't happen.

And that's why I call Bull.

I don't disagree that it can happen but it hasn't happened here. Ever.

Those bugs don't enter tubs for no reason and to feed on thin air. They enter for a reason, usually food or some place to lay eggs or breed.

You don't seem to realize though that I can't not clean some bins every day. I check them twice daily(only takes a few seconds per) for eggs, ovulations, sheds etc. and mark the ones that need cleaning. I then go back and clean them and change the water out as necessary. Bugs don't come here as there's nothing left in the bins for a prolonged period of time.

Re: mites.

I regularly have bugs come into the vivs with the substrate, they tend to drown in the water bowls over a peeriod of a week after new substrate goes in
