Re: Lost Snake Nighmare.....

Size / feed :
yes of course rat smalls. (You shouldn't feed mice to balls) He is about two foot even. He was on one pup/week when I got him and put size /appetite on quickly. We take very good care of him. (Short of my wife's TV marathon)

Burrow under: nope.

No plants, or anything?
Does your cabinets on the wall go all the way to the ceiling? Maybe he got on top of there somehow.

Nope no plants.

Kitchen cabinets only go counter high, then re-start about two feet about counter.

Have been looking again for hours again today. The wife is staying with the girls so I can set up rat-stock all over the upstairs tonight. (Need to hit the sack soon)

Yup. Per original post: Checking all he standard places like its my job. Have started to bag clothes and move out the the garage so there is less to check.

Looking for ideas on how to lure him out of the vents if he crawled in there.(?) nothing again last night with 8 rat lures on set up. (Most upstairs this time)

Going to shut the furnace off just now and place two dead rat pups near the holes I cut in the high exchanges. (One hot side/one cool side) near where I belive I saw his "dust foot prints" inside a vent. Rats on large sticky traps, traps duct taped to edge of ducting.

Any other ideas?

I would not use anything sticky oruse ducttape. If the snake gets stuck and struggles to get away itcould cause horrific injuries.

I'm going to have to agree with the no sticky stuff.

Yeah. I struggled with the idea but since that lure is literally inside the venting exchange I don't want him to eat & retreat back into the venting. Or more importantly since the exchanges are 9 foot up I didn't want him to attack and curl, then fall on the cement floor.

That said: I don't need to do that again. Any ideas of how to find him in or lure him out of duct work if in fact that is we're he is? Have had zero evidence to show he roams the halls at night..so....yeah?? (Use lots of lures, flour, foil along walls under motion sensors, heat mats with hides and water dishes, etc.)

There is only so much you can do, the rest is patience, and some luck.

This is something I wonder about actually. He is only 7 months old or so, 25 inches long and well fed.

Not sure how long he can last like that. My biggest fear is that if he is in the venting he might end up as snake Jerky from the heat. Attempting to NOT use the furnace as much as we can and we have agreed to not use air-con at all this summer incase he is in there.

I actually hate that routered decorative vent cover and have been meaning to replace it with a standard..damn it, damn it!!

@ Icole - How old was the snake that went AWOL for 6 months?

I won't say stop looking, but you can't look all day everyday forever. Your bound to exhaust your options and some places you just would'nt even think he could be hiding in.

But again, if he can't get to the outside of your house through any of the vents, ceiling boards or anything. He will hopefully turn up eventually in your bathroom sink or something.

Re: Lost Snake Nighmare.....

I work with a woman who's son had a ball python that got out. They found it four months later in closet, fat as ever.

Re: Lost Snake Nighmare.....

Balls can last quite a while without food, especially if they are laying dormant. My female refused to eat for 6 months and she barely lost any weight, so I wouldn't stress about that too much

Edit: Also! Check book shelves. If any of my snakes were out they always seem to head towards a shelf as there are tight spaces beside and on top of the books.
