Agreed.
The other night I came in the house to find Tank had woke from his sleep and was in his water enclosure. As the kids walked by he ignored them but stretched up to see me when he spotted me. I reached down and cupped his head in my hand and he relaxed. He does like spending time with me and seems upset when he can't find me.
He's a very special snapping(ha) turtle. I'm honored to be his pet.

Re: Growing Like a Weed
Here are my two sons, Kale(16) and Tank(4).
Tank decided he wanted to be up on Kale's lap, so he did. Kale and Tank have a good relationship.
They better because Tank will be living with Kale in the future.
A social snapping turtle. He's an awesome turtle.

Most snapping turtles don't like their shells to be touched. Their shells are very sensitive. I love looking at Tank's shell as I can see all the blood vessels that run throughout it. Tank lets me touch his shell and pat it when he's going to sleep. There have been a few times when he's not in the mood for shell touching. When that happens I bow to his wishes.
He allows my son Kale to touch him also but that's about it.

Tank gets fed every other day to every 3rd day.
Tank eats:
Purina Grower 600 aquatic floating pellets
Tilapia
Steak-lean hormone free
Pork-lean hormone free
Shrimp-raw in the shell
Night crawlers
I've tried switching him to a more vegetable diet but he's not interested at this time in his life.

Thanks. I'm blessed to have such a turtle in my family. He is welcomed everywhere he goes. He has dog-like qualities which set him apart from every other turtle I've encountered.
I've spent thousands of hours with him and it has never felt like a chore. Being around him makes me and others feel good. Making eye contact with him tells you he's something special.
I know what he is but he doesn't behave like a snapping turtle.
