Hello! And advice wanted RE: Dumerils Boas

Hello everyone:
I am new to this forum, but not new to keeping snakes. I'm a middle aged guy who bought his first snake......a "male" red tailed boa who turned out to be a girl......over thirty years ago when I was in college. I named "him" Napoleon and he was a wonderful pet. Unfortunately he grew too large for me to keep, and I had to sell him when I went to graduate school. Great snake! After all these years I still miss him.

I'm a real animal lover and we have, in addition to one Golden Retriever, one geriatric cat, and a huge aquarium, three shakes in our home at present: two ball pythons (normal male and BEL male) and one old corn snake. Now I want a boa. After careful consideration and exhaustive research, I've determined that
the best boa for me is a male Dumerils. As much as I loved Napoleon all those years ago, I do NOT want a snake that grows to a huge size. I think a MALE Dumerils is perfect.

Here's where I want advice. I know all about ball python breeders and who to deal with. Unfortunately, I don't know anything at all about boa breeders. Who would you recommend as the best place for me to buy a healthy male Dumerils baby or juvenile. Or for that matter, an adult? I'm never going to breed snakes, and I am only interested in a pet. Believe me, any animal...snake or other....that comes into our household will get the best possible care. Cost no object. Next to children (the human kind) animals rank no. 1 on our list of priorities.

Also, what would you recommend as the best possible enclosure for a male Dumerils? Please understand that I'm not concerned about the cost. OK, that might sound obnoxious, but fact is, I'm not worried about what it costs, I just want what is best. There seem to be so many options out there for boa enclosures and I'm confused. I keep my snakes in a large unused bedroom in my house and have plenty of room for whatever cage/enclosure is best suited for a Dumerils.

If you could recommend (1) a list of breeders to contact and (2) advice on an enclosure I would be grateful.

Thanks!

There's a couple dumerils keepers on here that will probably chime in soon enough.

Welcome to the forum. I've bought all my Dums from local expos. That's where I would start looking as you can get a pretty good price there. I do happen to have a gravid female due late this summer but that's a ways off yet. In the meantime, check out the shows. I'm sure you'll be able to find something to your liking there.
