I make-a da snake box (DIY 4x2)

-8x4 sheet of marine plywood
-nails and screws
-liquid nails
-caulk
-white elastomeric paint
-black enamel
-aluminum frame and runners
-1/4in. glass and lock

Total spent on this project: ~ $85

Basic structure of the 4x2

Litter dam installed

All glassed up and ready to go

ps: the glass smudge on the last pic bothers me too.

Couple of queries here:

1) what thickness of plywood did you use?

2) how has this cage held up? The reason I ask is it looks like it bows pretty significantly in the middle. Is that just the perspective?

Regardless, that's a pretty neat build! What are you putting in it?

It took a weekend to do the box form, sanding and first coat. I did 3 external coats with the enamel and 10 thin coats with the elastomeric. That took another two days but I let the paint cure for the rest of the week before the glass. Aluminum frame and runners took 20 mins to put in, I continued to let it cure for another week after that. Better safe than sorry right? Don't want my snake getting high off paint fumes. I might have to send her off to rehab.

3/4in. plywood all around the sides and the back walls are supporting the roof.
It's holding up great. I don't know why it shows up like that in the pictures, but the aluminum frame I installed for the glass fit right in and trued up quite nicely.

I show the habitant of this box in my intro thread: Relapsed Retic Addict
