I agree, very realistic indeed.

Look at the teeth on Nasher! Amazing animals Phil. Did you ever figure out what was up with the gums? I have heard of that from a couple other people as well.

not scientificly no but from what i can tell yes. Nasher (female) who is brave and fearless of humans, rarely ever bleeds from the gums and when she does it's tiny amounts for no more than 1 day (normally only few hours) so i put that type down to tooth changes as it's not in the same place everytime.

Now onto Dasher a nervous, easyly spoked male (less so now he so large). He shows the same signs as Nasher every now and then BUT the big differane is he threatens me very often, normally when he close to the glass and i suddlenly appear in his view. When very close i can see blood leaking out of the middle of his bottom jaw. This clearly is a "high level" threat/warning directed at me. I'm guessing it's a mix of venom/blood/syliva. On some instances it drips from his jaw but most commonly it's only small amounts which disapear as soon as he licks his lips unlike the tooth change type which is still clearly there when he licks his lips.

thats my take on it though i'd love a scentist to check if it is infact a form of venom or merely just blood

Re: A few pictures of my varanus sp collection

Someone asked about BLEEDING GUMS so here is Dasher show the type I class as tooth change bleeding gums. IT's very differant from the "threat bloody saliva type which only comes out one spot on each side sadly i am yet to get a picture of this which mouth open but a few with it closed.

Dasher polishing of a ex layer quail (and a bit of bark)

Dasher i made him jump when i appeared here he in fact tried to bite me before this picture and TWICE after luckly for me glass was there

Nasher waiting for her food

Big mert after a bunch of fuzzys

This is a bulb testing setup where i am trailing a bunch of bulbs and testing the temps results from this will be a few days (at least)

A collection of free logs family and friends have picked up for me over past week ready for my enclosure revamping / new mammal enclosure

Re: A few pictures of my varanus sp collection

Mammal enclosure?! Why would you want one of those when you could just get more monitors?

I have the odd exotic mammal, (used to have many more mammals) mammals well are cheaper to keep and buy but they not as interesting as monitors. thought this newbie is for my partner more than me she wanted something very large that "can" be tamed (she hopes)

Hi, it`s perfectly normal, as you will probably already be aware, the teeth are set into the fleshy gums to a degree, and when they bite their prey they can bleed slightly.
