Re: Scared for my boa

Okay. Straight up let's stop the bull before the **** hits the fan hard.

Dan and Cliff are both very solid people so this clash of opinions is just that and doesn't need to escalate further.

As for why Cliff feels so strongly about a false ibd guess is simple. He is probably one of the top three best known rainbow breeders. He had a snake that acted odd and was told it was ibd. His spent months, a lot of cash and lost a lot in his personal life trying to clear up his business name. Long story short is his facility is tested and it wasn't ibd.

I can see why it would be a sensitive subject but let's stop this now.

Yes I agree and can very much so have a difference of opinion but when someone tells me I should be ashamed for trying to help a member here and follows it up with a few more kicks to the groin ,well I get quite upset. It was needless to do and quite obvious Cliff had a bad experience BUT, that is no reason to slag someone who had nothing to do with his experience and to ignore all attempts at reason. He came out guns blazing right off the hop. This was not a difference of opinion but purely an attack in frustation over his personal past. Sorry it happened to him but I had nothing to do with it.

So far no one else has had problems. Athena is still having problems today and it seems will have to get fluids almost daily. Vet isnt sure but is on the edge of saying some of it may be permanent.

I'm sorry to hear that. =/ Did you find out what they used to clean the enclosure?

Now that just plain sucks
I hope he/she is wrong.
There was a heated thread about home mixed premithrin a few weeks back. This is the sort of thing we were worried about. (If this is what caused this)
Have you spoken to the pet store yet?
Again I am very sorry for your ordeal here. Please keep us posted.

That was my thread I didn't cause any harm to my snakes with diluted permethrin but now I see how easily I could have.

I hope you see this is why some of us were pushing against it so hard. It wasn't ever out of malice , it was because of worst case scenerio. We were actually in your corner the whole time

I would be pretty upset if something like this happened to me especially if it was a snake I raised up. I think ill just stick to the nix solution if I ever get mites again. I make sure to always check out snakes from other locations for mites if I handle them.

I go back monday or tuesday and so another round of fluids and blood. We are trying to see if the toxic level does go down. I am still debating euthanizing her based off of "if its perm, its not fair to her" however if she can recoup then I am all for rehabilitation. As it stands nothing is cost prohibitive. I love my animals and will do whatever it takes to fix her.

Honestly sir, I think you're good to keep her alive baring anything coming up in tox screens or something.

The best key to know she's not in pain would be her eating habit hasn't changed. Snakes that eat aren't usually in pain or worse. These are tough critters and to her, it's just a slight different way of doing everything daily. In the wild she may be prey at this point but not in an enclosure. Sadly, I would keep her from any breeding programs though.

Very good advice.

The only thing I cannot figure out is if she is in pain. She has random muscle spasms that dont look comfortable at all. She tightens up, her jaw opens up and she kinda just vibrates for a second before she goes back to "normal". I have no clue if she feels discomfort so I am just playing it by ear so to speak. And I dont plan on trying to breed her ever again. The stress would be too much I am afraid

This description of her behavior sounds like possible seizure activity which can be brought on by the pyrethrin exposure.
Most animals that have seizures are unaware of them happening. Behavior after the seizure may include lethargy and unsteadiness.

Re: Scared for my boa

Although I'm new to this forum, have read through this thread and watched the vid you posted. Got to say, you must be heartbroken, she looks like a gorgeous snake. Very sad to see her in the film.

Really hope she pulls through for you and that her issues can be sorted out.

Have to say I did find the IBD being related to the filovirus article very interesting!
