Our first Ball Python!
Daniel used some of his Christmas money to get a ball python today. It's about 15" long and a little over an inch in girth. He's in the tank now, gonna give him a day or so to get acclimated, then bring him out for some pics.

Congrats, make that acclimation period a week or two or you may have issues.

This. The longer, the better, but a week minimal. Congrats on the purchase though.

A week it is! Daniel is going to have a hard time not holding it for a week, but I can manage him.

in general carpet pythons have crazy feeding responses and are great eaters.....
i still don't handle them until they have ate at least 3 or 4 meals, just to make sure they are established feeders...
i'm NOT being cheeky mate...
ball pythons are well known for being fussy feeders, imo if it's a nervous feeder, then handling before establishing feeding, may stress it enough to stop it eating
i'm sure Daniel would understand his wait to handle it,if you explained that it may be better to get a few meals into it,before taking it out
^^^^^
the above is just my way of doing things
each to their own mate
cheers shaun

No worries! I told Dan how it is. If he wants his snake healthy, leave it be for a while.
And I appreciate everyones input. Thats why I post, to get info from those with more experience than me.

Re: Our first Ball Python!
The way i look at it the snake will live 20+ years, waiting a couple of weeks to handle it is nothing
Cant wait for pics tho once the time comes

This is actually Daniel's 4th snake. He also has 2 corn snakes and a Central American Boa. He's becoming quite the herpetologist in training.

Re: Our first Ball Python!
Got Ramses out for a few minutes, long enough to pose for a few pics. Here's a link for photobucket. For size reference, the tiles in a couple of the pics are 12"x12"

True. Wanted to get some pics. Had him out about 5 minutes then back in. Will get him an extra plump mouse this weekend.
