my nightmare-blood and tears :)

I think I used 150lbs of motar and concrete mix, several cans of spray foam, a gallon of tears.. I mean concrete sealer, and colored it with my blood lol. 20in of sandy sandy soil (more sand then I used before). Each section came out to 40"x32"x65". I wished it was longer per section (a good 48") but they use the climbing area which both come off the wall and 2ft out. Will most likely be dedicated to ackies in future. I think kims will be to active. I have had to drop down to 30 watt halogens due to it being so insulated. Top shelf holds around 105f ambinent. They do climb their stuby butts up there to look around. Ill try to keep it in order

Re: my nightmare-blood and tears :)

That is great looking! I thought the freezer may almost be to insulated but the fact you can use only a 30 watt bulb is pretty handy long term on the power bill. I like the drainage line idea as well and may use it...

Re: my nightmare-blood and tears :)

Is that what that is, and old freezer?! Nice reuse of materials man. Might have to do this after my next freezer craps out at work. I was just thinking the other day about what a nice enclosure my keg cooler would make...

Re: my nightmare-blood and tears :)

This is a large freezer from pizza hut. Doors are stainless steel and inside is aluminum. Should last a few years. I was wondering if the casters/wheels would hold up this weight and they do. It takes some grunting but I can roll this cage around a little by myself.

Re: my nightmare-blood and tears :)

question. whats the tri-colored like? i was considering one for about a 2 day span and decided against it. ive just heard they are nasty tempered and in most cases kill the females in mating attempts, i dont know how true it is? i ended up not buying one mostly due to price for an import. i think their was a brief discussion in another "varanus" forum not sure if you were who mentioned the info.

Re: my nightmare-blood and tears :)

My understanding is that they are very reclusive ambush predators. All the accounts I've heard are that they set up a hiding spot and sit inside, darting out and grabbing food when it comes along. I have never worked with them though, so I'm interested in hearing the response as well.

Re: my nightmare-blood and tears :)

It was not me that mentioned the info but Justin (I think) and I agree it is not a good display animal. Most indos aren't for that matter. Jmulgston (spelling) on varanus.nl has a trio and he reported that his male is very high strung and doesn't allow the females to be around. I believe he had to seperate them. Females are like blue tails and stay on the smaller side and the males get bulkier and longer (or so I have read). I would agree that they are ambush predators. Mine digs out a den that has a large entrance and turns into a tunnel that has to be 20 inches deep. Mine is supposed to be female but I havent had her long enough to test that out. I have had her for about 5-6 months so still to early for me to write a journal on them I hope to get a pair in the near future and try breeding them myself.
