UTH heater or light/ceramic heater for boa
I purchased a boa over a week ago and am using an UTH heating pad under the hide. I find she is spending most of her time out and about either on top of the hot side hide or on top of the cold side hide. I was wondering if an over head heater would be better than an UTH heater? i use UTH for my balls and corn snake, and over head for my carpet. I am new to boas though so i was wondering about other peoples opinions. Thanks!
Dan

Re: UTH heater or light/ceramic heater for boa
Its one of "those" arguments, some swear by UTH's and some swear by CHE's. At the end of the day they do the same job and both have pros and cons.
Whatever works for you is the best option

As long as the temps and humidity are correct it doesn't matter which you use. I use Radiant heat panels in all my vivs but that is just preference. What are the temps in your boa's set up? Do you have the UTH on a thermostat? If everything is correct then your snake will use the heat as it needs to/wants to.

Re: UTH heater or light/ceramic heater for boa
the temps right now under the hide where the UTH is are 89, on top of the hide is 85, around the hide is 80-82, and the rest of the tank is 75-78

Re: UTH heater or light/ceramic heater for boa
I have started using radiant heat panels and now swear by them. The basking area is like a uth but the air temps are higher between the rhp and the substrate. Some will argue a uth heats more like a sun heated surface but I have found my snakes tend to be more active with the rhp over the uth. I still have my ball on a uth but all of my others except my king are using rhp and I will never use anything else again.
