Our Baby Hognose Cassie

We just purchased our first Western Hognose tonight. She is a month old and so sweet. Not skiddish at all. We decided to name her Cassie. Her mom is abnormally large for a hognose. I held her tonight and I would say she is 3 1/2 to 4 feet long. Not sure if that will pass on to our little one but we'll see in future time! I am not sure what morph she is. Pretty sure she is just a regular morph.

Re: Our Baby Hognose Cassie

I forgot to add that we purchased her from Family Reptiles in Lakeland, FL. They are AWESOME. They gave us all the time in the world while we were there and are very knowledgeable about their snakes. They also let me hold their baby alligator

That's our baby! She wont be coming home with us for a little while though. Our home is currently being built and I want her to get just a tad bit larger before she comes to her new home.

Re: Our Baby Hognose Cassie

It's definitely killing me not having her home with us. I miss her already! We'll be visiting with her on Tuesday though.

Re: Our Baby Hognose Cassie

She is awesome. I hope you got all the right info on how to keep them. They are not like keeping any other snake. They have pretty spacific needs.

Also, most of my adult females are between 36 and 40 inches long. it is not uncommon for hogs to get that big.

Re: Our Baby Hognose Cassie

I have been doing quite a bit of research on them as well as other breeds for a while now, but there is always more to learn, and experience is always enlightening.

Re: Our Baby Hognose Cassie

Offer a hot spot in the low to mid 90's. Cool end should be around 80 degrees

feed every 2 to 3 days.

Keep a small water dish in the cage at all times
Keep cage dry but offer a humid hide spot. I would us aspen as a bedding so she can burrow and display natural behaviors

If you are using a cage with a screen top, I would cover the top with tinfoil or cut a sheet of plexi to fit the top.

If you take care of her properly, she should be 200 grams or more by this time next year.

Re: Our Baby Hognose Cassie

So a little update on Cassie..

Our breeder says that he hasn't been able to get her to eat so he isn't satisfied with her. He said he would refund our money to us in the end if that's what it comes to but I'm hoping that with some time and effort we can get her to eat. We are going to visit her tomorrow to see how she is doing.
