Hello

I am new to these forums. I recently got into western hognose snakes and I have seen some interesting discussion here on the topic. I also recently started working with some garter snakes. I have actually been working with the westerns and garters as the final step in getting over my fear of snakes. I never really imagined loving my snakes as much as I do but I find myself just in awe of them at times. Glad to be a part of the community and looking forward to learning some as well as sharing my experience where I can.
Rob

Re: Hello

Thank you everybody for the welcome, I look forward to learning from all the experienced keepers.

@Infernalis
I have posted on a few monitor forums in the past though I only frequent one monitor forum these days. Monitors are still a passion of mine and when I have more space in a few years when my PhD is finished and I have a real job I hope to expand into more species of monitors.

About me:
My research is in theoretical and experimental biophysics. I develop new methods for studying specialized bio-macromolecules like membrane proteins. I love herpetology because it has felt more tangible than my success in my career work and to be honest I have published in my field a few times and no number of publications has ever compared to the sense of pride and satisfaction you get watching one of those little noses pip an egg you supported. I really believe I have found my life's passion in working with these animals.
My girlfriend has her masters in physiology and specialized in reptiles and amphibs. She is actually how I got into reptiles. It was a childhood dream of hers to work with them (especially hognoses) but they were never allowed in her house. When I got real serious about her I wanted to make those dreams come true so we got our first geckos together and I set out to conquer my fear of snakes for her. I discovered a whole new set of dreams just trying to make hers come true.
My husbandry philosophy is proven methods, real science, support and choices. If you focus on those and listen to your animals, its hard to go wrong.

Well that was a longer post than intended....

We have something in common here, My whole interest in Varanids came to be because my wife used to have a Savannah Monitor for seven years just before I met her, she must have been doing something remotely right for her last one to make it seven years, He would have lived a lot longer if her ex husband didn't murder the lizard because he was pissed off at her.

I bought her a Sav 5 years ago as a surprise present, She cried when she opened the box... Little did I know I was about to become obsessed with Monitors at that time.

Another thing we have in common...
