Humidity advice

I have a ball python And have been told that the humidity should be between 50-60%. I find this is nearly impossible to acheive with a mesh top. I tried duct tape but quickly removed it once I noticed the smell it gives off. I'm afraid it may be toxic to him.

Need advice por favor!

Re: Humidity advice

Try selaphine, damp towel or even toss the aquarium.
For future reference, keep tape away from snakes.

Re: Humidity advice

How are you heating it? If you are using a light that will always cause this issue. However fish tanks are a pain in the butt to keep humidity in no matter what you do. I recommend either making a custom viv and heating it with Flexwatt or a radiant heat panel like this one

Or you can use a simple plastic storage tote with holes drilled in it for air flow. Attach your flexwatt and thermostat and you are good to roll. No more humidity issues.

Re: Humidity advice

I too have an aquarium with a mesh top...I went the route of a wet towel, which worked ok...but needs re-wetting. Plus you should replace it constantly. I finally went with a fogger and a humidity controller...So far it's ok.

Just another option...

And the fogger is ok for the snake? This seems like the most efficient option so far since I'm on a VERY tight budget and always on the run. It's difficult to keep up with misting all the time

Right now I have Saran wrap on the top as a quick temporary fix

Re: Humidity advice

50-60% is a minimum but when it is shed you want it to be more 75%. This is why meshtops are usually advised against (tho they can work if you take the time to do a lot of adjustments)

Re: Humidity advice

I use aquariums but cover them with with laminated wood panels to maintain humidity. (The wood panels are easy to obtain and can easily be cut to size.) For larger snakes I put them on top of a mesh top, so that snake can't push them out of the way. I can then adjust the desired humidity simply by moving the water bowl relative to the heat gradient.

The fogger keeps the humidity pretty stable...I have a repti-fogger. Pretty reasonable price, just remember to follow the directions and use distilled water with it...water heavy in minerals will kill the fogger pre-maturely.

They are about $45.00 depending on where you purchase it.

Re: Humidity advice

If I'm trying to keep humidity in a tank with wire top, I cover most of the top with a piece of plexiglass cut to fit. That works
