When I first got into reptiles over 15 years ago, I had several of my own (I was also helping do alot of rescues so the number that was actually living in my house fluctuated) within a year.
I got out of it for a few years and started again a little over a year ago. I started off with a royal and had 10 in 8 months. Now I have two tarantulas as well. I got into snakes to get over my snake fear. Same with the tarantulas.
I did briefly have an emperor scorpion that a friend gave me he could no longer take care of but it recently died during molt
Not my favorite thing to keep and I really didn't want it but I also couldn't refuse it. I did learn quite a few things about them, but I doubt I'll ever have another.
I agree with ExWiz....hoarding is when you have more animals that you are capable of taking care of. Most snakes are very easy to take care of as all you truly need to do is get their husbandry down. And out of all the several different types of animals I've had as pets (dogs, cats, rodents, lizards, etc), IMO, they are the easier to take for and the most fun.
