Interesting Thread...

Well while listening to music, I came up with this question. When you listen to music, is it the singers/rappers voice that attracts you to the song, that makes the song so good, or is it the actual beat in the song. For me, I would definitely say the beat has a great deal in influencing which songs I like and do not like. In rap, especially, this is true. What about you? Again I also feel it depends on the genre of music.

i listen to hip hop, and with me, there has to be a good beat, but whats a beat without someone that can carry their flow to the beat? So the voice and style of the voice has to be above average!!

But how many people listen to a certain person or group based on the image of said person???

I'd say both beat, and singer. Like ja rules voice is annoying, lol. I listen to punk rock, rock, rap, and country. so pretty much anything, except for the gothic kind of stuff(no offense to anyone out there)

PUNK RAWK, kiddies! I really like a good beat, and a great (wether gravelly like whatshisface of the Black Halos, unique like Dexter Holland of the Offspring, or just funky like Bob Marley), too, so I really like ska (less than Jake) and punk stuff (like Rancid), and I also love reggae, for the same reason...

lol....sorry guys but :medpuke: blarrrrrgh....
I hate rap, just my 3 cents though.....

I think that music should convey its' own message, lyrics are secondary...to me, anyway. I like the loud stuff.

i hate rap as well....
i listen to disturbed, godsmack, that kinda thing
i would say the singer has to catch me first then the lyrics, beat is important but that is third on the list

metal /hardcore/punk/classic rock/fusion/ stuff like that. my favorite bands and rtists are : Shai Hulud, As frinds Rust ( RIP) ,Esteem, Bad Religion, Bad Brains, Rush!!!, Journey, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Children of Bodom. stuff like tha. i hope somebody knows some of those unknowns. ha. For me like Shane its always a guitar riff. one f ym favorites is bumber 5 on Rush's Grace Under Pressure. the opening riff is cool with that delay effect. The Overture/ Temples of Syrinx from 2112 is an amazing song guitar wise. Drums come next . i love a good drum fill. I love when a drumer and guitarist can work together to give that great off time feel and yet its not and its great. Shai Hulud does that. check em out.

them and us... children of bodom is awesome. and i used to listen to bad brains when i was younger.
id say you need everything to have a good song, without vocals or guitar or a beat it doesnt come together at all.
other bands i like are Iron Maiden, Cradle, Frontline Assembly, Dimmu Borgir, Inflames... lots of other stuff too. it varies.
