The store is on the other side of town, and I can't make it there between hours of operation

By the way, as a side note. To test a scale, a dollar bill weighs about a gram. You can always buy calibration weights at like 50 or 100g, but everyone usually has easy access to a bill or two. Obviously you probably don't have 100 bills lying around to test in the higher ranges, but you can always throw something heavy on there and then throw another bill on top of that and see if it comes up as one gram more. Just a good way to make sure your scale is fairly accurate.
