OMG I GOT A KOMODO DRAGON! (Varanus komodoensis)
So I was out in town and I saw a shop that was SELLING A KOMODO DRAGON. I couldn't pass it up, so we brought him home. He's very docile and doesn't mind a good scratch behind the ear.
I know I shouldn't have made an impulse buy, and I feel really bad about not having a proper set up for him, but how could I pass up a komodo dragon?!
Right now he's set up in a fish tank (I know, bad, bad, bad!!!!) but the top is covered, and so are the sides. He has two hides, three large climbing branches, a water bowl large enough for him to soak in, and deep substrate. His basking spot is 155F, cool side 75, and humidity between 60 and 85%. His big boy enclosure will be done by Monday.
The store had him eating ground turkey (the San Diego Zoo diet), but I'm going to be changing that. My area sells pigs by the pound, so he will be eating those, as well as whole chickens, turkeys, and quail (not mine, obviously). I will also include crab, shrimp, deer meat when my friend goes hunting, and some fish.
He's settling in nicely now and exploring everything in his enclosure as I'm typing this. His big boy enclosure will be a six car garage, climate controlled, and I will be installing a rain system in there. Besides a few humidifiers and the rain system, I will need tips on keeping humidity up in such a large space. He will also have two basking spots, and UV-B will be provided in both of those.
Anyway.....
....
I'm sure you're all very excited to meet Mojo Jojo (Mojo, for short).
...
HERE HE IS!!!!!
And his enclosure:
He came from the toy store The Wizard's Chest in Denver. I hope you enjoyed my thread.

I knew that komodos were really smart... BUT training him to strike the same pose for every pic, well that's just on a whole other level of intelligence
