Some advice? - Juvenile Jag colouration

Hello all. I've not owned a carpet before, but after quite a bit of reading the species does seem more or less ideal as the kind of pet I'm interested in.

So henry at A1Pythons has some babies from his beautiful "Day Glow Jag" female for sale. My question is about the likelihood that their colour will change to the nice yellow of their mother with time (right now as youngsters they are quite grey). I know this species tends to colour up as they mature but I am not sure how well you can predict the colour of a juvie based on it's pedigree.

FWIW I'm interested in it as a nice looking pet snake, and not for the jag gene and breeding or anything (though I won't rule that out).

Yes they most likely will change over time. Snakes usually have minute changes every shed. Some can even make slight coloration variations over the course of the day.

sup cam. haven't checked out A1 yet but in most cases the parents of said snake are your basis to go off of in carpet pythons. however, at about 2-3 yrs of age at full sexual maturity, they pretty much have the color they will have for the rest of their life. almost all lines of carpet get some form of "muddying up" which is a browning of the scales starting at the top of the snake and working its way down. john B at moreliatrophyclub.com or jeff favle of your native Canada have possibly the most "proven" line of jaguar in the world. showing NO signs of mud. but seeing your snake go through its otogenetic color change is one of the most rewarding things of owning a carpet. please post a pic asap and let the forum know if you need any advice for your new snake. congrats!!

My answer still stands. The snake will most likely look very similar to the parents, but all snakes change over time.

just saw the dam. WOW she looks outstanding!! now how bout the sire??? these are the only guide lines I know of to judge a baby carpet to adult. your snake will go through DRAMATIC color change. for the price I think you made a good investment. (bout 500 U.S. right). another stipulation about carpets I've read is that sometimes you can get stunners from duds or duds from stunners. the day glow looks like a potent line of carpet I think you have a great snake on your hands. time will surely tell.

Hah! I've been on various forums since they were invented (I collect hobbies) and I think the same is true for all I was originally going to post the pic but I wasn't sure about copying it from his site.

I've asked for photos of the sire but I haven't heard back. I won't be getting the snake for a while yet (I've got a couple weeks of travel planned and I'd like to be around to see her settled) but I've got a deposit on her.

Everything I'm reading suggests that even if she stays grey she'll be a purchase I won't regret, so I'm not terribly stressed about the colour, just curious!

the rule here is, as long as you give photo credit and the owner doesn't tell you "no" then its ok.

as said the best guide to how your hatchling will turn out is.....

how the parents look or better still,previous hatchlings that have grown to adult age
