New Boa =)

Hello,
I'm new and just wanted to post photos of our new Boa. I got her from pets unlimited due to her being a female and her unique coloring. They told me shes a Central American Boa but she has some uniqueness about her as you'll see in the photos. She has a pink belly that starts off white/grey and fades into a lovely salmon pink.

Re: New Boa =)

Was she wild caught? That pink belly is quite common with wild caught babies and will eventually disappear.

Congratulations. She's really pretty.

Re: New Boa =)

Could the pink belly be caused by a burn from flexwatt or something?

Re: New Boa =)

She wasn't wild caught, they said she was shipped in from their supplier. I don't think the pink is caused by a burn, shes had it for a while, the store had them for a while and shes always had it.

Re: New Boa =)

"Shipped in from their supplier" is the biggest "I am wild caught" flag that's out there. A big tattoo saying "WILD CAUGHT" could possibly only been slightly more obvious.

So the male I have who was also "shipped in from their supplier" is also wild caught your saying? My male is from a breeder who I've contacted. I have yet to find the contact info on her breeder due to the manager not being in at the store. If my female is wild caught I would suspect to be more aggressive than what she is would she not be? Funny thing is also that there's a central het blood that looks almost exactly like her. So it could easily be that shes mixed with something and the traits of that could be showing in different ways.

Re: New Boa =)

I have a full grown wild caught boa (caught and imported as an adult) who is the sweetest thing ever, always has been. Check out some Central and South America field herping threads for pictures of people posing with calm and even tempered wild boas.

looks like a Nicaraguan boa, if so i believe they keep the color, nothing about that animal says its wild caught.

Re: New Boa =)

Hi and welcome!
and just like bushsnake said there is nothing to indicate that your snake is wild caught.
Very few boas are wild caught anymore. There are so many boas being produced that the prices are very low at the wholesale level. It doesn't make any sense to import wild caught ones anymore. Its cheaper for pet wholesalers to buy captive bred!!

^^^^This exactly. Whether or not its WC is irrelevant to the fact that this snake looks great and the fact that shes tame; well thats a great added bonus.

Re: New Boa =)

Nice looking girl you got there . My boa's bellies get pink to red before going into shed. Wouldnt be supprised if she blued up in a few days to a week. Check after her first shed with you. Wheres the pics of the color transition from white to pink?
