Re: Getting Active

It's normal behavior. Sometimes they want to get out and explore, plan an escape, or do a little wishful hunting. It also means he's feeling comfortable in his environment. Most BPs, especially if they're nervous or feel unsafe, will stay in their hides for as long as possible. Yours sounds like it's doings just fine

imo,he's just exploring his new surroundings mate

he's only been with you a couple of days,so he's still curious

nothing to worry about, leave him in peace and quiet, don't handle him and 7 days after he's been at yours, offer food

cheers shaun

All worries of a new owner You'll get used to your snake's personality and routine in no time. One of my ball python's always rests with his head outside his hide or with his head on top of his hide. I worry when he doesn't do it Soon enough you'll know what's normal for your own too!

Sorry. But I have to disagree alessia.

He could just be looking around his tank because its a new environment and its his first week there.. but if this behaviour continues (if hes cruising around all the time during the day time), it means hes stressed out. A happy ball python is a hiding ball python.

Can you share with us pictures of your enclosure or describe what you're housing him in? Including how youre heating, how many hides, substrate, type of tank?

Oh, I agree with you. If he's cursing all the time during the day it's definitely stress. But a bit of exploring here and there, especially for a new snake in a new environment is normal. Re-reading what I wrote now I see why you got that impression though. My bad!

No worries!! I think its great that we have members like us who are willing to help new comers. I've been wanting to write out a full care sheet for ball pythons to sticky here, but I havent nearly got the time with work and school.
