Taiwan Beauty

Sooo, my silly impulsive boyfriend went to go pick up crickets for me today. As always when he goes on his own I make sure to tell him not to come home with ANYTHING and again he came home with what he has called a "Christmas Snake" A Taiwan Beauty. Not gonna lie it is Super cute but now I am doing some quick research on them. I am not overly worried about an impulse animal, I have dealt with this before but I would appreciate any info, advice and links to good sites.
Here is a quick pic I took while giving some water. Really fast so hard to get a good shot.

Re: Taiwan Beauty

Beautiful. That's a good impulse buy love that looooong stripe on the tail. Beauties are fassst though; I'm surprised you even got a pic!! Can't wait to see pics as this little one grows. I found this info for you:

Quote:
Taiwanese Beauty Snakes do best in a well ventilated vivarium measuring around 180cm (72 inches) in length, 90cm (36 inches) deep and 90cm (36 inches) high. These snakes are extremely active and will use all the room they can have. Hatchlings and younger snakes may be kept in a smaller vivarium. Provide hides and shelters as these are essential to snakes, one at the warm side of the enclosure and one on the cooler side. Taiwanese Beauty Snakes are semi-arboreal so other furnishings like sterilized rocks or fake plants make good climbing and resting places.
Quote:
Taiwanese Beauty Snakes require a temperature gradient from the warm end at 29°C (84°F) to cool areas at 24°C (75°F) . Night time temperatures should be around 24°C (75°F). A basking spot of 30°C (86°F) is also appreciated by these snakes.
Pretty much the same for other rat snakes as far as I can see. I got it from here.

Re: Taiwan Beauty

Beautiful snake, they aren't hard to take care of. I've been researching beauty snakes for awhile and everything I've read has said that taiwans are the best ones to start with. Thats just what I've read though. I think they get a good size to them, like 7 or 8 ft so have a plan for an adult enclosure. They grow pretty fast.

I spoke to Stephan on FB this am... He has just been busy. I would assume he will poke his head in later today.

Re: Taiwan Beauty

Congrats on the purchase! I've been wanting to get a pair of those for years but I've had a hard time finding CB animals.

Re: Taiwan Beauty

I did the exact same thing as your boyfriend in August - now I have a pair - I have no special tips to be honest - they are fast, but not crazy fast, like a radiated rat, and have quite a calm temperament compared to some rats.

This site has some great info on them and other rats -
Ratsnake Information
Enjoy it - they are great!

Re: Taiwan Beauty

My trio have become increasingly aggressive as they have matured. A large, strong, fast snake with attitude. Easy to keep but can be quite a handful.

Re: Taiwan Beauty

Thanks everyone for your input

kernel- It is believed to be a male but not for sure. I have a few snakes who need to be sexed but I am waiting until I can get someone to the house to do it or until it warms up again so I can bring them somewhere.
