Question about JCP feeding

I've heard that you can feed carpets quite large meals for their size. I ran out of the large rat fuzzies I was feeding to Leto, my JCP, and I bought some "small rats" at the local pet store.

My question is can I feed this:

To this:

It seems a bit of a stretch to me, but I wanted to get the opinion of some more experienced people here. Leto is now about 110 grams, which is about 20 grams more than in the photos here. I would say that at his thickest he is probably about the diameter of a quarter.

thanks for your input!

He should have no trouble eating it.

Re: Question about JCP feeding

Diameter of prey can be as large or slightly larger than the carpets thickest point. Length is not the key. Its thickness. Er ah yeah I just said that but its true.
That looks about right.

Re: Question about JCP feeding

I try to get rats that are 3times the girth of my JCP - he has one every 14 days. My JCP is about 5ft and my SD Retic is about 6.5ft and they both took the same size prey at the last feed.

Too right - he was fed AFTER doc and finished BEFORE him and was cruising around looking for more!

Re: Question about JCP feeding

Well, I put the rat in there a little while ago, and he came right out to investigate it. It seems that he isn't going for it just now though unfortunately. I'll leave it in there for a while (since I'm heading out to play some darts!) and see if he takes it. I think that you're all right that it's not too big, it could be that he's getting ready for a shed or something like that. Hopefully he'll eat it because I'd hate to see it go to waste!

Do you think I'd have better luck if I offered it with tongs?

Re: Question about JCP feeding

I use tongs and also heat the skull up nice and HOT, give it a nice target to aim for

My male JCP gets fed a 150gm rat every 10 days or so.... third day after a feed the bugger assumes his usual position and the rat he ate is still evident in a buldge lol...

three days after a feed you find him like this (ambush position in front of the hide)....

i heat all my prey items up with a hairdryer, always giving the head an extra heat

i then offer with feeding tongs,by doing the dead mouse dance, shaking it around in front of the snake.with this method, all my carpets strike feed off feeding tongs

cheers shaun
