Iguana lighting questions!!

Hello so I am new to this forum (just incase im posting in the wrong thread) but anyway i recently purchased an Iguana and I have a UVB light for it that I use for about 12 hours a day. I also had a blue heat light but it was only 50 watts and the general temperature in my aquarium stayed around 85 degrees. Yesterday i purchased a red night heat light that's 100 watts and i feel like my iguana likes it much better because it provides better heat. My real question is does the bluish yellow heat light emit UVA? and if I was to use my red heat light all day does that only emit heat and no UVA? I just want my Iguana to be healthy but its a pain to switch the hot bulbs every 12 hours... Thanks

Re: Iguana lighting questions!!

Use 2 light hoods.

Answer - heat lights emit no useful UV. in fact red is on the exact opposite of the light spectrum.

Re: Iguana lighting questions!!

You cold get 2 lamps, and control them with a timer?
Regarding UV, check the boxes they came in.

Welcome to the forums.

Re: Iguana lighting questions!!

Depends how colkd it gets where you are (and how it affects iggies, we dont have one) BUT we use a Mercury Vapour bulb for our lizards, it is on 12 hours or so each day which provides heat and uva/uvb and then we switch it off overnight which gives the day/night cycle for both light and heat.
