How to safely and humanely catch a snake

I caught a snake in my pond by luck and relocated him, but another ponder has a snake eating his goldfish can anyone give some suggestions as how to safely and humanely catch this snake. Are there special traps or DIY traps one can make to capture it?

I have heard of people using a 2 liter soda bottle, cutting off most of the top and inverting it. Put something good smelling inside...the snake goes in...can't go out. But not sure how big the snake is...would have to fit into the bottle. Really any kind of trap that is get in but can't get out inverted type thing would work.

There are, but I would be hesitant to use them outside, What type of snake is it? I don't want to give you advice and have it turn out to be venomous (a hot) Can we get photos? or a description.

There is one easy to make outdoor trap, but you will need to check it regularly and if it rains even more regularly.

You take a long tarp (only needs to be 10 inches high but at least 6 feet long)
A few pegs (like 10)
1 empty clean detergent bucket

(preferably 2X of the above items)

You stretch the tarp out lengthwise at an angle and peg it so it stands on edge (10 inches high 6 feet long) and make sure it goes about 1 foot into the pond.
In the middle of it dig a hole and put the bucket in the hole, so its flush with the ground level.If possible do it on each side of the pond.

The snake will slither along the tarp and fall into the bucket, then you toss the lid on it and walk away with the bucket and relocate the animal.
