enclosure ideas.

So as the title says, its gking to be that time that I want to bhy/build a new home for my brb... I have been doing slot of reading on them and came to the, conclusion tthat 7 ft is more than likely the max she will get. Maybe 8... I want to build something to house my beardie in top, and my brb in bottom preferably in a tub... any ideas in what to keep adult brb in?

Re: enclosure ideas.

A front opening enclosure, wood works fine, so does melamine. The rule for the snakes i work with is the terrarium should be about half the length of the snake so for you it will be 4 feet? that works out great considering plywood is 8 feet by 4 feet. Split it in half and you get two 4 by 4 squares.

Re: enclosure ideas.

That is what I was thinking of doing, but i just want to do all my research and reading 1st. I was thinking of making 2. 4ft x 2$t " wft enclosures, one for brb and 1 for nearside.

Re: enclosure ideas.

If you make it 4X4 you can make it into a vivarium and give him stuff to climb on.

Re: enclosure ideas.

Ugh, stupid phone spelling..... I was thinking of (2) 4x2x2 enclosures on for brb and one for beardie , if I do this I will hsve to do the brb cage out of melamine board BC of humidity... but I coukd do the beardies out of aspen ply wood, witch I just looked at....

Re: enclosure ideas.

Standard recommendation for an adult Brazilian is three feet long by two feet wide, with height up the buyer/builder. These snakes do not get up to seven feet all the time; six seems to be more normal (for girls; boys stay about a foot shorter). Personally, I like to give them extra space, so all my vivs are four by two, for an extra 33% space. Good luck, and please keep us posted!

Re: enclosure ideas.

Is it worth building an arboreal terrarium for them? Will they make use of it.

Re: enclosure ideas.

Do you think you could snap a few pics of your enclosures?

I think I'm going 4x2x2... or maybe... just maybe... 3.5x2x2 just cause my shelving I'm making is going to be 4 foot long. I don't want to shove it cage in all the time... .... though, I wont wver have to take oout the cages... ugh, I have a few months to do this.. lol.

Re: enclosure ideas.

Lil Boa, if the pict request was directed at me, I use Boaphiles, nothing unique there. If you still want picts, just let me know.

Stephan, younger Brazilians climb a fair bit, but the adults are mostly terrestrial. I think they appreciate extra hides and substrate to burrow in more than sticks to climb on. ;-)

Re: enclosure ideas.

Not sure if you have any lumber or builders yards near you but i would contact them and see if they sell offcuts, pieces not big enough for trade use that would be dumped could be perfect for what you need. They may even give it free as they normally have to pay someone to take it away.
