Re: albino rat question

I personally enjoy rats with markings and I think the same can be said for many many people. It just adds more personality. I picked both of my girls because of markings alone. One is this white rat with a gray hood while the other is this dirty brown color with white feet, white star on her belly, and a white spot on the back 2/3 of her tail.

Re: albino rat question

They all taste the same to the snake, I prefer albino rats personally because they are easier to find if they get out, that being said we have snow 6 months of the year, so if they actually get out I'm in trouble.

No promises from us Canadians, we will eat anything that walks on on its own power.

Re: albino rat question

Assuming you bought your rats from either a reptile breeder or pet store, the rats you have are considered 'genetic junk' rats and are generally sold as feeders or feeder breeders.
Normal old hooded rats.
An actual rat breeder would have no use for these types of rats in their collection.
As for albino hoodeds; in the reptile community, they are as good as any other coloured rat; no better, no worse.
They are also very common.
Though I no longer breed my rats for colour or pattern (I now breed prolific breeders and for good health) roughly 45% of my collection is albino.

Re: albino rat question

My very first albino male BP is also named Kane.
You would be surprised how many people are completely adamant that their snakes will ONLY eat rats that are all white or all black.

Re: albino rat question

Is there a known reason why the snakes are drawn to these colours? or is it just the owners making assumptions?

Re: albino rat question

Yeah I had a guy tell me his bp wouldn't eat a rat that had the slightest bit of color on it and I thought to myself I don't think any of my snakes take the time to examine ther food that closely before they eat it
