Re: Diamond Momma Taking care Of Business!
THX folks!
Well just took them away here a few minutes ago & got them into the incubator, much to Mom's dismay of course.
Total count was 34 eggs, 8 obvious slugs & hopefully 26 good ones!!! Mark
Some folks ask how do you know she's done?
Well it looks like this:
Who me? I don't have anything!
What she was hiding:
To answer all those how big are they Qs, a standard size Sharpie & they are on a standard RM shoebox lid
The frantic search for them begins!!!

Re: Diamond Momma Taking care Of Business!
Its not the shipping itself thats the hassle its getting all the proper CITES & other paperwork etc. in place & paying for it as well as arranging USF&W inspection & a US Import/Export License etc. all of which are required to get one into the US from Canada, Mark

Re: Diamond Momma Taking care Of Business!
I never really thought of snakes as maternal.

Re: Diamond Momma Taking care Of Business!
Momma Pythons are TOTALLY Maternal
They will maternally incubate the eggs if you allow them too.
They will tighten or loosen their coils on them to regulate tmep & will even "vibrate" to creat heat for them if its too cold, basically expamd & contract their coils rubbing them together for friction.
Thing is I can control incubation better than she can & they don't eat if on eggs either.
They will guard empty nest boxes or the area of the cage they were laid in even after they are long gone.
Quite often you will have to gut the entier cage after thye have shed in order for them to realize they are gone.
My female IJ guarded her "clutch" for a good week or so after it was taken here this year already.
I tood the Diamonds nest box out but she is likely lying where it was last thinking shes protecting them still, like I said SUPER Maternal instincts in Pythons Cheers Mark

That's really amazing. Thanks for the info Mark. I imagine then that they get a little pissy when it's time to pull the clutch.

THX folks!
Its actually fairly easy to take them, one just has to be quick & the Momma's are usually pretty tired so not much fight left in them THX Mark
