My jungle carpet python!
Hi I'm new here, so I thought I'd introduce myself and my new jcp. Ever since I first saw a jcp about 15 years ago, I knew one day I'd get one, and that day finally came about a month ago! I got him at the New England Expo and he's 75% jungle x 25% diamond. Here are a couple pics from the day I got him:
and here's a more recent pic:
I've had snakes before, but never a python. He seems to be doing great so far. He still hasn't shed, but I know he's growing because I weigh him about once a week. He's about doubled in size, but still no shed. Is this normal for pythons? Oh, and he still needs a name, so if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Re: My jungle carpet python!
Welcome! Nice looking Carpet!
My 5 month JCP shed last week and about 3-4 weeks prior to that. I'm sure it will vary, and is dependent on how much you feed and the snake's genetics.
Keep us updated! Good luck with the naming, as that is usually the toughest part about a new addition to your family!

Re: My jungle carpet python!
They grow like weeds. My jcp was about the size of yours when I got her. She was the "runt of the litter", so to speak and way under sized for her age (1 year old). Now about 6.5 months later, she's 6 feet long and an inch thick.
Am I alone in thinking that the coloring on yours makes it look like it has some coastal in it?

They tell me this little guy should get only about 5.5 feet long. Which I thought was good, I'm not really into having a large snake! He shouldn't have coastal in him.
His grandparents are Adam and Eve from Reptilicus:
Adam:
Eve:
I am hoping he looks a little bit like them. I really like the high contrast black and yellows. Well who doesn't!

Re: My jungle carpet python!
With the 25% diamond in him I would think he would get longer than 5.5 feet.

Great bloodline! I too have a baby from Will and Mary Leary of Reptilicus (they are great breeders to work with, in my opinion). I can't wait to see him grow!

I thought the diamonds were a little smaller than the jungles? Also he's a male, and males are smaller than females, aren't they?

after coastals diamonds are the largest of the carpet pythons
irian jaya's and jungles are the smaller of the carpets
i have a diamond jungle shes 75% diamond influence and at 3 years old is already the longest of all my carpets
i have a female diamond who can reach 7 to 9 feet on average
adult jungles tend to be small and a very large specimen would be 2 to 2.5 meters long
most of my jungles are roughly 5 ft
imo it will depend on how much diamond influence is really in your snakes genetics
cheers shaun
