Really worried...

I have a female veiled chameleon for a year. She had eaten her crickts, mealworms, and some vegies during that time except during the winter. She now shows agrretion towards me when I put food or my hand near her and I don't know why. Can someone please tell me why and help me?

Re: Really worried...

Tell us a bit about your husbandry...temperatures, enclosure, how much water does she get, have her colours changed, have you seen her digging?
She could be gravid in which case it's very important you get a laybox in her enclosure or she could/will get eggbound. If she's about a year old or more this could be a possibility.

I find veiled chameleons (pretty much chameleons in general) to be quite UN-friendly, and very defensive (I don't really like the term aggressive). Mine, for example, is a huge jerk and hates my guts unless I have feeding tongs in my hand.

Yea my experence with chameleons are not so nice either but i had wc flapneck ones, always wanted to get cb but they put me off chameleons in general so much its gonna take lots of convincing for me to believe they can actually 'like' a person.

Re: Really worried...

My Chameleon died on Monday after one year and one week of her purchase date. Exactly don't know how old she was, but I guess she wasn't pregnant since she didn't mate and was living alone.
Quite an experience I had. Thanks for all the comments.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. It's always awful to lose a pet.

Re: Really worried...

I've had the opposite experience. My veiled was awesome. My husband used to let him hang out in his hair and would go out with him often. We never made him live in a cage though. We had large trees and hanging plants along one side of our living room that were all his, a fountain...tons of space, we made his "habitat" just like home, and it was a part of our home, he was always free to roam and we never ever had problems with him or our set up...we only picked him up if he wanted to and respected him as a living being with his own desires...he didn't rule our home, we all just kind of lived together...and got along well....except he and the bird were never really friends...he would visit our rabbits often enough though. I will always be a fan of veiled chameleons.

Re: Really worried...

Sorry to hear about the loss of your buddy. We lost Liza years ago and are only now feeling ready to add another one to our family, give it time and you'll see those memories will always be special....
