Exclamation Oh no! Are they dead?

I got 2 slings in the mail today. one is about 1/2 " and the other 3/4 "
Neither of them are moving, but their legs aren't curled underneath them. They were shipped on monday and arrived today. The heat pack in the box was cold and so were the vials the slings were contained in.
I thought maybe they were hibernating or something, but it's been 5 hours later and no sign of life
I never should have had them shipped in this weather, and so close to xmas.
So what has happened? are they really dead?

Re: Oh no! Are they dead?

I'm going to have to agree with Marvelfreak.. Why werent they shipped overnight? Three or Four days is far to long for fragile creatures in my opinion its to long for none fragile creatures.

Re: Oh no! Are they dead?

I would contact the seller. Slings, or animals in general should be sent overnight, especially in this cold...It's not your fault. The seller, if at all reputable, should send you new slings or refund your money. Sorry for your loss.

This may sound stupid, but what are slings? I've never heard of them.

Baby tarantuals. I'm not 100% if it translates to all young spiders as I'm not exactly an arachnid buff...lol.

Re: Oh no! Are they dead?

Thanks Jess.

Cavelle, I hope the seller is willing to work with you. It's atrocious that they were shipped without insulation and not overnight. Even in the best of weather, all live animal shipments should come overnight.

Re: Oh no! Are they dead?

Thought I'd let everyone know they didn't make it
They had a heat pack, but it didn't last long enough I guess.
The seller was very nice to me, offered me refund or exchange. I'll still buy from them, but not until the weather warms up. I don't want anything else bad to happen.

Re: Oh no! Are they dead?

I don't blame you. Make sure you have it in writing (such as email or other private message) that they will be giving you a refund or exchange and that it can wait until warmer weather. You don't want them to say in a few months' time that the offer or exchange has expired or that they never said they'd give you one in the first place. Not saying they will, but it is always better to be safe than sorry.
