My little female hognose hasn't eaten for me yet. I got her Oct 12th. She went blue and shed within 3 days of bringing her home. I have tried F/T pinky, live pinky, in the cage, in separate container, rubbed the pinky on a leopard gecko. We also have bearded dragons. Would they be better.
I have heard many different suggetions and none has worked yet. If the snake was older I wouldn't be so concerned but she is so little (23cm, 6g).
Hognose are opertunistic mine usually moves around with him mouth open looking for it as soon as he smells it. The lizaed **** works sometimes but what i;ve heard was that it's more for aborial snakes and alot of viper boas they look alike hognose and them. Try using pinky gerbals if you can and if not try just leaving a live one in their. Repeat until it eats and check your temps and humidity also. Goodluck
Thank you. You have saved my little hog. I had my wife pick up the only frog at her store (a dwarf african). The hog scarfed it within minutes. I got Oct 12 and have tried everything. Should I just keep feeding these for a while? I don't care about the price of food if she is eating. And when should I try to swith her over to rodents?
I honestly dont know so much about hogs if you can find someone or somewhere that supplies feeder frogs the prices for them around here isnt to bad. As far as switching voer I would try to get it feeding regular for awhile then try to switch it sometime but be prepared for it to refuse... Sorry i cant help more but am glad to hear that it ate something for you...
Also I dont know much about frogs but I there are some you need to watch out for as far as feeding goes good luck with your hogg.
Hmm, mine eats rat pinks no problem. Is yours a Western or Eastern hognose? I know Westerns can usually be gotten onto rodents without too much problem, but most people I know that have Easterns have to keep them on frogs and lizards.
She is a Western but small. I think that is the problem. She didn't lose any weight while she was not eating so I'm not real worried. She looks like the other Western I got at the same time(who is eating pinkies fine). She has spots on a light tan background just like my other. I there any way to tell eastern / western? The Easterns I've seen have been darker over all, is that the only visual difference?
